TriStar 8.5 SL Insecticide
TriStar 8.5 SL Insecticide is a professional broad-spectrum insecticide containing 8.5% acetamiprid for fast control and extended residual protection against aphids, whiteflies, mealybugs, scales, leafminers, thrips, leafhoppers, caterpillars, beetles, and numerous additional ornamental and greenhouse pests. Its odorless, water-based soluble-liquid formulation provides contact, systemic, and translaminar activity to protect both existing foliage and developing plant growth.
Powered by IRAC Group 4A neonicotinoid chemistry, TriStar is labeled across greenhouse, nursery, ornamental, landscape, vegetable-transplant, and selected edible-crop programs. Manufacturer literature supports rapid uptake, knockdown in as little as 15 minutes following direct spray exposure, up to four weeks of residual control on bedding plants, and approximately four to six weeks on woody ornamentals and trees depending on plant material and growing conditions.

Labeled Use Sites
TriStar 8.5 SL is labeled for professional use on ornamental plants, annual and perennial flowering plants, bedding plants, foliage plants, shrubs, vines, deciduous and evergreen trees, ornamental seedlings, conifer seedlings, non-bearing fruit and nut trees, and selected non-bearing berry propagation crops. Use sites include outdoor landscapes, field-grown and container nurseries, greenhouses, shadehouses, hoophouses, and lathhouses. The label also includes greenhouse-grown tomatoes and peppers plus listed vegetable transplants grown before transplanting.
Target Pests
Labeled ornamental pests include aphids such as green peach, woolly, melon, and cotton aphids; European pine sawfly; psyllids; tentiform leafminer; citrus, obscure, longtail, pink hibiscus, and Madeira mealybugs; glassy-winged sharpshooter and other leafhoppers; caterpillars including gypsy moth, tobacco budworm, fall armyworm, southern armyworm, cabbage looper, and diamondback moth; hard and soft scales; plant bugs; adelgids; greenhouse, sweetpotato, silverleaf, banded, and giant whiteflies; Swede midge; fungus gnat larvae; crane fly larvae; citrus, cotton, palm, and Western flower thrips; adult Japanese beetles, European chafers, Oriental beetles, strawberry weevils; and chrysanthemum and citrus leafminers.
Application Notes
TriStar 8.5 SL ornamental foliar rates vary by target pest. Aphids and psyllids generally use 4 fl oz per 100 gallons; mealybugs and leafhoppers generally use 8.5 fl oz per 100 gallons; scales, caterpillars, whiteflies, plant bugs, fungus gnat larvae, and related pests generally use 8.5 to 16.5 fl oz per 100 gallons; thrips and adult leaf-eating beetles generally use 12.5 to 25.3 fl oz per 100 gallons; and leafminers use 21 to 25.3 fl oz per 100 gallons. Apply with sufficient water for thorough canopy coverage and wait at least six hours before overhead irrigation of treated foliage.
A nonionic spreader-sticker is specifically recommended for certain foliar applications and may improve control of mealybugs, scales, whiteflies, thrips, and leafminers. TriStar may also be applied by basal bark treatment or tree injection where labeled. For ornamental basal bark applications, use 12.5 to 25.3 fl oz per gallon of water with a compatible organosilicone adjuvant. Do not make more than four ornamental applications per calendar year or reapply more often than every seven days.
