Tribune Herbicide
Tribune Herbicide is a fast-acting, nonselective contact herbicide containing 37.3% diquat dibromide for control of labeled aquatic, broadleaf, and grassy weeds. Tribune rapidly interferes with photosynthesis in green plant tissue, producing visible injury within days and providing quick burndown of susceptible weeds in ponds, lakes, drainage areas, landscapes, nurseries, commercial greenhouses, industrial sites, and other labeled areas.
Tribune is especially useful for aquatic vegetation management, including control of duckweed, water hyacinth, water lettuce, hydrilla, watermilfoil, coontail, elodea, naiad, and most labeled pondweeds. Because diquat is a contact herbicide and does not translocate systemically, thorough coverage of actively growing vegetation is critical for best results.
Features & Benefits
✓ Fast-acting nonselective contact herbicide containing 37.3% diquat dibromide
✓ Provides rapid burndown by disrupting photosynthesis in green plant tissue
✓ Controls numerous floating, marginal, and submerged aquatic weeds
✓ Labeled for ponds, lakes, reservoirs, drainage ditches, canals, and other approved aquatic sites
✓ Also labeled for commercial greenhouses, nurseries, landscapes, industrial areas, roadsides, and turf renovation
✓ May be used for precise edging, trimming, spot treatments, and fast vegetation burndown
✓ Flexible surface, subsurface, spot, and broadcast application options depending on the labeled site
Labeled Use Sites
Tribune is labeled for aquatic vegetation management in ponds, lakes, reservoirs, marshes, bayous, drainage ditches, canals, streams, rivers, and other still, slow-moving, or quiescent waters where permitted. Terrestrial uses include commercial greenhouses and nurseries, ornamental seed crops outside California, residential and commercial landscapes, golf courses, roadsides, rights-of-way, railroads, industrial sites, utility areas, public and recreational areas, turf renovation, and dormant established bermudagrass and zoysiagrass. Commercial sod farms are excluded from the turf-renovation use.
Target Weeds
Labeled floating and marginal aquatic weeds include water lettuce, water hyacinth, duckweed, Salvinia, pennywort, frog's bit where permitted, and cattails. Submerged weeds include bladderwort, hydrilla, watermilfoils including Eurasian watermilfoil, pondweeds except Richardson's pondweed, coontail, elodea, Brazilian elodea, and naiad. Spirogyra and Pithophora algae are labeled for suppression only and may require an approved algaecide tank mix. Tribune also controls numerous emerged broadleaf and grassy weeds in terrestrial vegetation-management applications.
Application Notes
For aquatic floating and marginal weeds, spot treatments generally use a 0.5% solution, while broadcast applications range from 0.5 to 2 gallons per surface acre depending on target vegetation and conditions. Duckweed is specifically labeled at 1 to 2 gallons per acre. For submerged weeds, apply 0.5 to 2 gallons per surface acre based on water depth, with the higher rate used for severe infestations. Water depths of 2 feet or less must not receive more than 1 gallon per surface acre.
Apply to actively growing vegetation and obtain thorough coverage. Muddy or dirty water can reduce activity, and applications should be avoided during high winds, strong water flow, or wave action. When treating dense aquatic vegetation, treat only one-third to one-half of the water body at one time and wait 14 days between treatments to reduce the risk of oxygen depletion from decomposing vegetation. Aquatic applications may also carry drinking-water, livestock, irrigation, or other water-use waiting periods depending on application rate.
