Spear Insecticide/Miticide/Acaricide

is a professional suspension concentrate powered by spiromesifen for control of labeled mites and whiteflies in field crops, cotton, vegetables, potatoes, tuberous and corm vegetables, and low-growing berries. As a Group 23 lipid biosynthesis inhibitor, Spear provides a valuable mode of action for mite and whitefly resistance-management programs.

Spear works primarily by contact and is active on all mite development stages, with juvenile mite stages often more susceptible than adults. It is also effective against whitefly nymphs and has activity on the difficult-to-control whitefly pupal stage. Spear is the generic equivalent of Oberon 4 SC.

Labeled Use Sites

Spear is labeled for use on field corn, popcorn, sweet corn, cotton, cucurbit vegetables, fruiting vegetables, leafy greens, brassica leafy vegetables, potatoes, tuberous and corm vegetables, and low-growing berries. Labeled crop examples include cucumber, melon, pumpkin, squash, watermelon, eggplant, peppers, tomatillo, tomato, lettuce, spinach, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, kale, mustard greens, potato, sweet potato, cranberry, lowbush blueberry, lingonberry, strawberry, and related crop group members.

Target Pests

Spear controls labeled mites and whiteflies including Banks grass mite, twospotted spider mite, carmine spider mite, desert spider mite, Pacific spider mite, strawberry spider mite, broad mite, tomato russet mite, potato/tomato psyllid, and whiteflies including silverleaf whitefly, sweetpotato whitefly, and greenhouse whitefly.

Application Notes

Apply Spear when target pest populations begin to build and before damaging populations become established. Spear is most effective when applications are targeted toward egg and nymphal stages of target pests. Thorough and uniform coverage of all plant parts is required for optimum performance, and applications with poor coverage may result in slower activity or reduced control.

Ground applications must be made in a minimum of 10 gallons per acre, and aerial applications must be made in a minimum of 5 gallons per acre. Spear may also be applied through labeled sprinkler-type chemigation systems on crops where chemigation is allowed. Evaluate performance 4 to 10 days after application. Do not exceed 0.35 lb active ingredient spiromesifen per acre per calendar year across all crops and use sites.
