Distance IGR Insect Growth Regulator

Distance IGR is a professional insect growth regulator containing 11.23% pyriproxyfen for long-term management of whiteflies, scales, fungus gnats, shore flies, mealybugs, leafminers, and other labeled pests in greenhouse, nursery, interiorscape, landscape, ornamental, and selected indoor edible-crop programs. As an IRAC Group 7C insecticide, Distance disrupts insect development and reproduction rather than relying on conventional adult knockdown.

Distance affects multiple pest life stages by providing ovicidal activity, inhibiting development of nymphs, larvae, and pupae, and reducing production of viable eggs by exposed adults. Strong translaminar movement allows residues applied to the upper leaf surface to penetrate the leaf and reach insects feeding underneath, making Distance especially valuable in professional IPM and resistance-management programs.

Labeled Use Sites

Distance IGR is labeled for indoor and outdoor ornamentals including greenhouses, lathhouses, shadehouses, interiorscapes, flowering plants, foliage plants, groundcovers, shrubs, ornamental trees, non-bearing fruit and nut trees, and vines. The label also includes indoor-grown fruiting vegetables and indoor-grown herbs under crop-specific restrictions. Low-volume foliar systems are permitted where labeled, and selected overhead irrigation applications are allowed for fungus gnats and shore flies except where prohibited by state restrictions.

Target Pests

Distance controls labeled whiteflies including Ficus whitefly, giant whitefly, greenhouse whitefly, rugose spiraling whitefly, silverleaf whitefly, and sweetpotato whitefly. Additional labeled targets include black scale, California red scale, euonymus scale, false oleander scale, Florida wax scale, pine needle scale, San Jose scale, snow scale, spotted tentiform leafminer, fungus gnats, shore flies, and selected other pests. Aphids, Western flower thrips, and mealybugs are labeled for suppression rather than full control.

Application Notes

For foliar whitefly applications on ornamentals, use 6 to 8 fl oz per 100 gallons of water. For scales, mealybugs, and spotted tentiform leafminer programs, use 8 to 12 fl oz per 100 gallons. Apply uniformly to plant surfaces to the point of runoff. A second foliar application may be made 14 to 28 days after the first where needed. Do not make more than two applications per cropping cycle or two applications within six months where specified.

For fungus gnats and shore flies, apply 3 to 6 fl oz per 100 gallons as a coarse sprench to potting-media surfaces, or 2 fl oz per 100 gallons as a drench to the upper 1 to 1.5 inches of media. Allow at least 21 days between soil-surface treatments. Distance does not provide rapid adult knockdown; where immediate control of adult insects is required, use a compatible labeled adulticide as part of the management program.
