Colonel XTR Copper Complex Algaecide & Aquatic Herbicide
Colonel XTR is a professional chelated copper algaecide and aquatic herbicide containing 28.2% copper ethanolamine complex, equivalent to 9.1% metallic copper. A generic alternative to Captain® XTR, Colonel XTR is designed for control of a broad spectrum of green and blue-green algae, including planktonic, filamentous, and macrophytic algae, as well as labeled copper-sensitive submersed aquatic weeds.
The chelated copper formulation helps reduce precipitation of copper by carbonates and bicarbonates in the water, improving copper availability in a wide range of aquatic treatment programs. Colonel XTR can be used in ponds, lakes, irrigation and drainage systems, potable water reservoirs, fish hatcheries, golf course water features, chemigation systems, canals, and other labeled aquatic sites.
Features & Benefits
✓ Contains 28.2% copper ethanolamine complex with 9.1% metallic copper equivalent
✓ Chelated copper formulation helps reduce mineral antagonism from carbonates and bicarbonates in water
✓ Controls planktonic, filamentous, macrophytic, green, and blue-green algae including cyanobacteria
✓ Controls labeled copper-sensitive submersed aquatic weeds including hydrilla and egeria
✓ Flexible application by surface spray, subsurface injection, drip system, metering pump, and labeled chemigation systems
✓ May be tank mixed with compatible aquatic herbicides and algaecides where permitted by all product labels
✓ Generic alternative to Captain® XTR for professional aquatic algae and vegetation management
Labeled Use Sites
Colonel XTR is labeled for aquatic algae and vegetation management in fresh-water lakes, ponds, golf course water features, fish hatcheries, potable water reservoirs, canals, ditches, irrigation systems, drainage systems, aquaculture ponds, constructed irrigation conveyances, laterals, aqueducts, and chemigation systems.
The product may also be applied through labeled flowing-water systems using calibrated drip or metering equipment. Treatment of water intended for drinking does not by itself make the water potable; water destined for drinking must receive appropriate separate potable-water treatment.
Target Algae & Aquatic Weeds
Planktonic Algae: suspended algae and other labeled planktonic growth.
Filamentous Algae: mat-forming algae including Pithophora, Cladophora, Lyngbya, Hydrodictyon, and other labeled filamentous species. Higher labeled rates may be required for dense floating mats and difficult-to-control infestations.
Macrophytic Algae: Chara, Nitella, starry stonewort, and other labeled macrophytic algae.
Blue-Green Algae / Cyanobacteria: labeled blue-green and cyanobacterial algae species. Applications to dense toxin-producing cyanobacterial blooms require special care because cell destruction can release intracellular toxins into the water.
Submersed Aquatic Weeds: hydrilla, egeria, and other submersed aquatic plant species that are susceptible to copper.
Application Notes
For planktonic and filamentous algae, apply Colonel XTR at 0.6 to 3.0 gallons per acre-foot to provide approximately 0.2 to 1.0 ppm metallic copper. For macrophytic algae such as Chara, Nitella, and starry stonewort, use 1.2 to 3.0 gallons per acre-foot, equivalent to approximately 0.4 to 1.0 ppm copper. Submersed aquatic weed treatments use approximately 2.3 to 3.0 gallons per acre-foot to achieve 0.75 to 1.0 ppm copper.
Do not exceed 1.0 ppm metallic copper during any single application. When fish are present in aquaculture ponds and nuisance algae are the treatment target, do not exceed 0.4 ppm copper in a single application. To reduce the risk of oxygen depletion from decomposing vegetation, do not treat more than one-half of the water body at one time and wait at least 14 days between treatments unless otherwise authorized under the label. Apply early when algae or aquatic weeds are actively growing and use sufficient application volume and distribution to contact the target vegetation.
