Optigard Ant Gel Bait is a professional, ready-to-use sugar-based ant bait for indoor and outdoor control of structure-invading, sweet-feeding ants. Powered by thiamethoxam, Optigard uses a highly palatable clear gel formulation that ants readily consume and transfer throughout the colony.

Once foraging ants feed on the bait, they return to the nest and share it with nestmates, brood, and the queen through trophallaxis. This transfer helps deliver colony-level control, with dead ants typically appearing within days and substantial reduction in foraging activity often seen within a few days to a week. For best results, use Optigard Ant Gel Bait alongside a protein bait such as Advance 375A Select Granular Ant Bait so ants have both sugar and protein bait options.

Use sites include residential areas, institutional facilities, warehouses, restaurants, food processing plants, supermarkets, hospitals, nursing homes, motels, hotels, schools, apartments, aircraft, buses, boats, ships, and trains. It may be used indoors and outdoors according to label directions.

Target Pests

Optigard Ant Gel Bait is labeled for indoor and outdoor control of structure-invading ants, excluding fire ants, harvester ants, and Pharaoh ants. The product information sheet lists broad-spectrum control of ants including Argentine ants, carpenter ants, odorous house ants, ghost ants, and other structure-invading sweet-feeding ants.

Application Notes

Apply Optigard Ant Gel Bait with the syringe applicator or a bait injector. Place bait in cracks, crevices, corners, wall voids, and out-of-the-way places where ants are actively foraging or entering the structure. Common placement areas include under and behind appliances and baseboards, under sinks, around window and door frames, around pipes and water heaters, in attics, crawl spaces, garages, soffits, eaves, weep holes, and where pipes or wires enter the structure.

Do not spray insecticide over the gel because it may make the bait repellent. Do not apply to areas that are routinely washed, such as countertops, because washing can remove or dilute the bait. For food/feed-handling establishments, application within food/feed areas is limited to crack-and-crevice treatment only. Inspect placements during follow-up visits and reapply as needed.
