Define the Treatment Goal

Decide whether you need to remove existing growth, prevent new emergence, control brush, preserve desirable grasses, or maintain a bare area. Identify the target plants and use site, then compare active ingredients, selectivity, residual activity, application timing, and equipment requirements.

Protect Adjacent Vegetation and Water

Many vegetation-management herbicides can injure desirable plants through spray drift, runoff, soil movement, or root uptake. Review the label for approved sites, setbacks, soil restrictions, rainfall requirements, temperature and wind limits, grazing restrictions, and precautions around trees, ornamentals, crops, and water.
