Certainty Turf Herbicide

Certainty Turf Herbicide is a professional selective postemergence herbicide containing 75% sulfosulfuron for control of nutsedge, kyllinga, annual and perennial grasses, and selected broadleaf weeds in established warm-season turf. Its systemic HRAC Group 2 sulfonylurea chemistry is absorbed through both foliage and roots, rapidly stopping susceptible weed growth while providing excellent selectivity across labeled warm-season turfgrasses.

Certainty is especially effective on yellow and purple nutsedge, green and false green kyllinga, annual sedges, Poa annua, tall fescue, perennial ryegrass, Poa trivialis, and other difficult weeds. It is labeled for residential and commercial turf, sod farms, athletic fields, parks, golf course fairways, tees and roughs, native warm-season grasses, and selected ornamental and landscape uses.

Labeled Use Sites

Certainty is labeled for established warm-season turf at residential and commercial properties, apartment complexes, athletic fields, cemeteries, golf course fairways, tees and roughs, hotel properties, parks, public areas, retail sites, school grounds, sod farms, turfgrass seed farms, and other highly managed turf sites. Labeled desirable warm-season turfgrasses include common and hybrid bermudagrass, bahiagrass, buffalograss, centipedegrass, kikuyugrass, St. Augustinegrass, seashore paspalum, and zoysiagrass. Certainty is not labeled for golf course putting greens.

Target Weeds

Certainty controls false green kyllinga, fragrant kyllinga, green kyllinga, purple nutsedge, yellow nutsedge, globe sedge, annual sedges, little barley, catchweed bedstraw, bulbous bluegrass, roughstalk bluegrass, lawn burweed, buttercup, common chickweed, white clover, crowfootgrass, dandelion, wild garlic, Johnsongrass, wild mustard, field pennycress, perennial ryegrass, and shepherd’s-purse. It also has specific labeled programs for annual bluegrass or Poa annua, tall fescue, rescuegrass, and spring transition of overseeded perennial ryegrass.

Virginia buttonweed, dallisgrass, Carolina geranium, henbit, lawn pennywort or dollarweed, quackgrass, and certain other weeds are labeled for suppression or partial control rather than full control. Dallisgrass suppression in bermudagrass requires the specific labeled MSMA program.

Application Notes

For nutsedge and kyllinga control in established warm-season turf, apply Certainty at 1.25 oz per acre after target weeds reach the 3- to 8-leaf stage. If necessary, make a second 1.25 oz per acre application four or more weeks later. Apply broadcast treatments in 10 to 50 gallons of water per acre with a nonionic surfactant at 0.25% to 0.5% v/v.

For hand-held spot treatments, apply at the equivalent labeled rate using approximately 2 gallons of finished spray per 1,000 sq ft and add 2 teaspoons of nonionic surfactant per gallon. Do not mow for at least two days before or two days after application. Heavy rainfall or irrigation within two hours may reduce performance. Do not exceed 2.66 oz of Certainty per acre per year.
