Manganese plays a vital role in various plant physiological processes. It is essential for photosynthesis, acting as a cofactor in the oxygen-evolving complex of photosystem II. Manganese also participates in the synthesis of chlorophyll and in nitrogen metabolism, which are crucial for plant growth and development. Additionally, it influences the uptake and assimilation of other nutrients in plants. A deficiency of manganese in plants leads to noticeable symptoms, the most prominent being interveinal chlorosis, where the areas between the veins of young leaves turn yellow while veins remain green. This is often accompanied by reduced growth rates, and in severe cases, brown spots may appear on leaves. Such symptoms, resulting from impaired photosynthetic activity and other disrupted metabolic processes, significantly affect the plant's overall health and productivity.
